it’s a green tree

Itsagreentree is a response to the destruction of over 27 million trees that are felled in North America alone every year for Christmas. These trees are usually between 4 and 12 years old and harvesting, shipping and bringing them to market exacerbates global warming. Barely a month after the trees are chopped down they are then abandoned on city sidewalks to be mulched, thrown into landfill or burned, releasing the carbon that they had been storing.

Itsagreentree has created an attractive, sustainable and symbolic alternative to reduce the current environmental impact of Christmas. These products are flat-packed re-reusable trees called Alberello, Italian for “little tree” and with care will last for decades, and unlike plastic, when discarded they will degrade naturally.

The Alberello comes in 1 size ( a large tree) but we also have the MINITREE ( tabletop). They can be painted by family and friends and have up to 100 holes for ornaments. The Alberello is also available stained green. (This options is named after Craig our neighbour, who was too lazy to paint his own Alberello.) 

We also offer flat-pack wooden ornaments, which can be painted if desired, for those who do not already own a collection.

The trees arrive with minimal packaging that doubles as storage for when the tree is not being used. The boxes for the Alberello are an inch thick and can be stored under a bed, a sofa or behind a piece of furniture. The MINITREE arrives in a reusable rigid mailer.

Looking ahead itsagreentree will manufacture in different countries to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.
